The Asian Highway Land Affected Villages Chairmen/Chiefs’ Association (Taphou Kuki-Gamgiphai) urged the Manipur government to honour the people’s wish if they do not have a problem with the demand of the affected victims.

A joint meeting was held on Tuesday between the government officials led by the commissioner (revenue) and senior police officials led by ADGP L Kailun and officers and affected residents of the land acquisition for expansion of NH-2 under packages 4B and 5A at Conference Hall, DC Kangpokpi District.

The meeting was also attended by the commissioner (works), Government of Manipur, ADGP Clay Khongsai, Range-4 DIG Angam Kamei, Kangpokpi SP, and leaders of AHLAVCCA, Kangpokpi District Joint Chiefs’ Coordinating Committee on Land Matters, TSA Sadar Hills, and All Manipur Gorkha Students’ Union Kalapahar Unit.

During a press conference held after the meeting, AHLAVCCA assistant spokesperson, Thanglen Kipgen said that earlier they had already announced that unless the issue of NH-2 expansion is resolved and the land is declared unsurveyed land, no more meetings and talks will be entertained. However, having faith upon the government they once again attended the lengthy meeting considering that the government comes up with a positive response to resolve the issue amicably.

However, nothing changes in its arrogance over the issue that has been witnessed during the meeting and it was ended similarly without any solution like before, he added.

He said that more than ten unfruitful meetings had already been held and we are already fed up and tired of such meetings where no solution can arrive.

He pointed out that during the meeting we asked the government officials and the senior police officials whether the government has any problem with the demand of the affected victims but they responded that the government has no problem at all.

Then, we told them that let the government act according to the wish of the people if they do not have any problems, why created unnecessary problems when there are no problems at all, he added.

He continued that it has become a matter of concern as to why the government remained adamant to act according to the wish of the affected victims when they have no issue over their demand and it will not be wrong to consider that there is some hidden agenda of the government over the issue of National Highway-2 expansion.

He further said that today’s meeting was the last and final meeting and talk with the government and its representatives over the issue as we will no more continue to entertain such meetings and talks in the future unless the government resolve the issue and declare the affected land as ‘unsurveyed land’ as stated before, “for our stands on the issue is clear and final”.

He cautioned that in case the government failed to act according to the wish of the affected people and use force to bulldozed it, then “we will face defending our land till our last drop of blood”.
