As in other parts of the country, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) also observed the 104th birth anniversary of former prime minister and Bharat Ratna Indira Gandhi at Congress Bhavan, Imphal on Friday.
MPCC president N Loken, CLP leader O Ibobi, CWC member Gaikhangam, other senior Congress leaders and party workers paid rich floral tributes to a photograph of the first and to date the only woman prime minister of India.
Speaking to media persons, O Ibobi lauded Indira Gandhi as one of the bravest women leaders in the world. She stood for the unity of the country and some organisations despised it.
“But she remained adamant and even said that if she lost her life for the cause of uniting the country, let it be,” he added.
Ibobi exhorted every Congress worker to follow the ideals of Indira Gandhi including maintaining equality and secularism, and saving democracy. Only then, we would be truly honouring the late prime minister, he added.
