Professor Naorem Lokendra Singh was appointed as the new vice chancellor of Manipur University on Friday. The Ministry of Education, Government of India has written a letter to the registrar informing about the appointment.
The President of India in his capacity as the visitor of Manipur University appointed as the vice chancellor of Manipur University, Imphal as per Statute 2(1) of the Manipur University Act 2005 for a term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office, or until he attains the age of seventy years, whichever is earlier, it stated.
Prof Naorem Lokendra Singh is the head of the Department of History, Manipur University at present.
“The terms and conditions of the services of Prof Naorem Lokendra Singh as the vice chancellor of the Manipur University will be those as set forth in the Act, Statutes and Ordinances of the University,” it mentioned.
It may be mentioned that the university was running without a regular VC for the last couple of years after the removal of Prof AP Pandey.
