The development came after LM Khaute, the then DGP of Manipur, on Friday, took voluntary retirement from the Indian Police Services (IPS).

Manipur DG (Prisons) P. Doungel will hold the charge of Director General of Police, Manipur and Head of Police Force.
“The Governor of Manipur is pleased to allow Shri P. Doungel, IPS, DG(Prisons) to also hold the charge of Director General of Police, Manipur and Head of Police Force with immediate effect and until further orders in public interest,” stated an order issued by Joint Secretary (DP), Anna Arambam on Monday.
The development came after LM Khaute, the then DGP of Manipur, on Friday, took voluntary retirement from the Indian Police Services (IPS). Khaute was appointed as the DGP of Manipur in December 2015.
Before his appointment to the top post of the Manipur police department, Khaute, a Manipur Tripura 1985 batch IPS Officer, was holding the post of Additional DGP (law and order).
An order issued by the state government on November 2 stated, “Under rule 16(2) of All India Service (Death-Cum Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958, the governor of Manipur is pleased to allow LM Khaute, IPS to retire from the Indian Police Services(IPS) voluntarily with effect from December 10, 2021.”
As per reports, Khaute is likely to contest the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, due early next year from Churachandpur (ST) assembly constituency.
