The past one week, between May 10 and 16, Manipur recorded the highest number of new cases and deaths since COVID-19 pandemic hit the state in March 2020. The week also reported the highest single day spike three times — 666 new cases on May 12, 726 on May 14 and 730 on May 15, and the highest single day death toll on May 11 with 20 deaths.
During the period, the state reported a total of 4,375 fresh cases and 102 deaths. The average state positivity rate stood at 18.84 percent.
On Sunday, the state reported 677 fresh cases and 16 deaths. Active cases in the state have surged to 6,477 (General Population – 6302 and Central Security Personnel – 175). Out of these, 3,990 are in home isolation.
According to the Health Department, 16 persons aged 51 yrs (female, Imphal West), 74 yrs (female, Imphal West), 72 yrs: (male, Imphal West), 63 yrs (female, Churachandpur), 57 yrs (male, Churachandpur), 56 yrs (male, Ukhrul). 63 yrs (male, Imphal East), 42 yrs (male, Senapati). 91 yrs (female, Imphal West), 66 yrs (male, Thoubal), 55 yrs (male, Imphal West), 72 yrs (male, Imphal West), 92 yrs (male, Imphal West), 97 yrs (male. Imphal West), 60 yrs (female, Imphal West) and 77 yrs (female, Bishnupur) expired at Shija Hospital (3). DH Churachandpur (2), JNIMS (6) and RIMS (5) hospital respectively.
In the last 24 hours ending 5 pm Sunday, 665 persons (336 male and 329 female) from the general population and 12 personnel from Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were confirmed as COVID-19 positive.
The positive cases from the general population are from Imphal West (263), Imphal East (159), Kakching (71), Churachandpur (70), Thoubal (33), Bishnupur (24), Kangpokpi (17), Tamenglong (12), Chandel (5), Senapati (5), Kamjong (2), Ukhrul (2), and Tengnoupal (2).
As many as 399 persons were discharged in the last 24 hours. They are from CAPF (9), Home Isolation (292), RIMS (10), RD Wing (9), BB (17), NSU (15), SHRI (15), Bishnupur (9), Kakching (3), Churachandpur (13), Jiribam (2), and Ukhrul (5). The recovery rate of the state stands at 82.24 %.
The total infection of the state has reached 39,729 (General Population – 36,027 and Central Security Personnel – 3,702) and 578 total deaths.
In the last 24 hours, a total of 1488 D type Oxygen cylinders and 568 B-type Oxygen cylinders were made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur, according to the Health Department.
Meanwhile, as of 4 pm Saturday, there are 82 vacant beds in the COVID hospitals, both private and government, in the state, of which there are four ICU beds. There are 57 vacant beds in district COVID-19 facilities which includes district hospitals and Community Health Centres (CHC). In the 14 COVID-19 Care Centres (CCC), there are 1094 vacant beds.
As per the latest information, 3,09,596 individuals have been vaccinated in the state, of which 79,112 have received the second dose. Amongst the districts, Imphal West topped the list, followed by Imphal East, Thoubal, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Kakching, Chandel, Kangpokpi, Ukhrul, Tengnoupal, Tamenglong, Senapati, Noney, Jiribam, Pherzawl, and Kamjong.
Meanwhile, India reported 3.11 lakh new COVID-19 cases and 4,077 deaths in the last 24 hours ending 8 am Sunday, as per Union Health Ministry. 3.62 lakh patients were discharged during the period.
The active cases now stand at 36.18 lakhs. The number of the total infections in the country has reached 2.08 crore and 2.7 lakhs deaths. 18.22 crore individuals have been vaccinated in the country.
