Manipur child rights panel, CWC Tengnoupal District asked to intervene in child rape case

Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) urged the Manipur State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and CWC Tengnoupal District to make an urgent intervention to arrest the accused person in child rape case at the earliest so as to undergo due process of law.

Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) in a release on Monday expressed strong dissatisfaction with the irresponsibility of the Tengnoupal Police Station for its failure to arrest an alleged child rapist namely Charanga Koyaingam of Lamlong Khullen Village of Machi Sub-division since the commissioning of the crime on May 12, 2021 around 6.30 pm.

A written complaint was submitted on May 15, 2021 by the eldest sister of the victim mentioning that her younger sister was raped by the said accused person at his residence and requested the police to take up legal action. Concerning the same, an FIR was lodged bearing FIR No: 29(5)2021 TPL-PS U/s. 4 POCSO, Act & 376 IPC. However, the accused person is yet to be arrested till date, it added.

“It has been more than 37 days, the accused person is roaming scot free and the Tengnoupal Police Station is not able to arrest the said accused person which is very unfortunate,” YFPHR said and urged the DGP to take up necessary action against the officer-in-charge, Tengnoupal Police Station for its failure to arrest the accused person.
