The chief minister also said that government run schools had seen lots of improvement in the past three and half years. Number of position holders among the students of government run schools in class X and class XII examinations had increased considerably, he added.

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday said that law and order of the state has been considerably improved since the formation of new government, and added that women of the state could now give more emphasis on bringing up their children in right direction and contribute more in the improvement of the state’s economy as women had been playing a key role in growth trend of the state.
The chief minister was speaking on the occasion of laying the foundation stones for three Ima Keithel (Women’s Market), which are to be constructed at Bishnupur, Moirang and Nambol. He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a cold storage and collection unit at Khoijuman, Bishnupur District. Manipur Police Housing Corporation Ltd (MPHC Ltd) is the agency for the construction of the three women’s markets and the cold storage, a release said.
CM Biren further said that the construction of women’s market and cold storage were taken up in line with the state government’s mission of inclusive development. Assuring that the construction would be completed within six months, he asked MPHC Ltd to start the construction as soon as possible. He added that the cold storage would facilitate the vegetable producers as their excess produce could be kept at the cold storage and could be saved from wastages.
He informed that the state government had proposed a comprehensive policy for development of Loktak Lake. To facilitate commuters visiting Loktak lake, the road from Imphal to Moirang covering a distance of around 51 kilometers would be widened and upgraded to double lane, he added. He also appealed to the residents residing along the roadside to take into consideration the state government’s plan to widen the road while constructing any structure along the roadside to avoid damage in future.
The release also mentioned that the state government in its yearly plan had included construction of women’s market at Kamgjong, Kanglatombi, Noney, Pallel, Pherzawl, Sekmai and Tengnoupal apart from the three markets for which the foundation stones were laid on Tuesday.

Meanwhile the chief minister also launched School Fagathansi Mission at Oinam Government Girls’ High School and Leimapokpam Government Public High School on Tuesday. So far, the state government has launched the mission in 15 schools at 15 Assembly Constituencies, a release said.
Speaking at the occasion, CM Biren said that School Fagathansi mission was launched to improve the government run schools both in terms of physical and manpower infrastructure at par with the private schools. Nowadays, children’s education requires a huge amount of money if they are sent to private schools. As such, to ease this hardship being faced by poor parents, the government decided to develop some selected government run schools as model schools. With this mission being implemented, government schools would have similar infrastructures and manpower like in private schools, he added.
Earlier, government run schools did not have pre-nursery classes. So, it was also one of the main reasons for not choosing government run schools by parents over private schools, the chief minister said. Now under the School Fagathansi mission, selected government run schools will have classes from pre-nursery to class X or XII, he said while adding that this would bring continuity in education for students of these schools. For this, the chief minister informed, the state cabinet had approved recruitment of pre-nursery teachers under this mission.
The chief minister further said that government run schools had seen lots of improvement in the past three and half years. The chief minister also informed that enrollment of students in government run schools had also witnessed a steep rise during this period. The chief minister also said that government run schools are people’s schools where they can give good education with nominal expenditure.
CM Biren Singh also said that a series of seminars would be organised to discuss the National Education Policy. He also observed that politics should never interfere in the education sector because it is the backbone of the society.
Delivering his presidential speech, Education minister Sorokhaibam Rajen said that under the School Fagathansi Mission, the enrolment of students in government run schools had considerably increased. He added that the new government had been putting tireless efforts for bringing inclusive development in different sectors since its formation.
Manipur Pollution Control Board chairman and MLA Oinam AC L Radhakishore, MLA Nambol AC Nameirakpam Loken, Education (S) commissioner T Ranjit also attended the function amongst others, the release added.
