Kuki Tribal Union (KTU) has refuted the news that eight of its members surrendered to the Halflong Battalion of 11th Assam Rifles (AR) as claimed by the latter.
In a press note issued by NSCN (I-M)’s MIP, KTU said expressed dismay over the news item that appears in “some local papers and social media platforms” regarding the surrender of eight KTU members on August 19 to the Halflong Battalion of 11th Assam Rifles(AR), Dimasa Hasao, Karbi Anglong, Assam.
KTU refuted the claim of AR that the surrendered members are members of KTU. “As per official records they are not listed as members of KTU and is the handiwork of the AR to gain unqualified credit out of the surrender ceremony”, said the outfit.
The MIP press note further stated that that one Tatar from KTU, Doulalsem Khongsai surrendered to 11th AR on June 16, 2022. “It is believed that he is hand in glove with 11th AR to tarnish the good name of KTU by making the eight persons surrendered as KTU members”, said the press note.
“Doulalsem Khongsai is a person of dubious distinction who get himself elected as Tatar from the backdoor, without going through the official process to be proposed, endorsed and approved by KTU. Morally on the wrong side from the beginning he didn’t think twice as he himself surrendered to the AR” further said the MIP note.
