The proscribed Koireng-led UNLF and its armed wing, the MPA, have offered the revolutionary salute to three fighters who tragically lost their lives on October 23.

RPF/PLA’s Captain Oinam Gulu (alias Babu), son of Oinam Kunjo and Oinam (O) Pishak from Jiribam Kadamtala; PREPAK (Pro)’s Captain Wahengbam Sopaiba (alias Saratkumar), son of W Deba and W (Ongbi) Memcha from Hiyanglam Awang Leikai; and L/Cpl Nongmaithem Nongdon (alias Bonysana), son of N Raju and N (Ongbi) Sangita from Wangkhei Angom Leikai were reportedly killed in a gunbattle with a combined force of KNF(B) and Indian military personnel around 5 a.m. on October 23, near the India-Myanmar border.

In a press release issued by Secretary of Publicity M Shak-Hen on Friday, the outfit described them as exceptional fighters who valiantly defended Manipur’s sovereignty and worked to strengthen the state’s unity.

According to the press release, the three fighters died in a fierce encounter involving a coalition of Manipur’s revolutionary groups against combined forces of the Indian military and an armed group sponsored by Indian Occupation Force (IOF).

The UNLF expressed that the sacrifices of these martyrs, who believed deeply in armed struggle and the unity of revolutionary groups, will be forever remembered for their role in Manipur’s liberation movement.

“The demise of the three revolutionary fighters is a huge loss for all of us who are waging a war of liberation”, it said.

The outfit also extended solidarity to all grieving revolutionary organizations, friends, and supporters and offered prayers for the departed souls to rest in eternal peace.
