14 staff nurses have been sanctioned as per MGEL sanctioned posts at the District Hospital. But till now, only four staff nurses have been posted. Out of the four staff nurses, one has been posted at PHSC Parsain under PHC Kalapahar as CHO under NHM, rendering the remaining only three staff nurses to serve the patients at the hospital
TFM Kangpokpi Representative
Civil society organizations of Kangpokpi have decided to impose a 24-hour total shutdown in Kangpokpi district over shortage of staff nurses, and other manpower at District Hospital Kangpokpi from midnight of July 26 to midnight of July 27. The decision was taken in a joint meeting today at Kangpokpi District Headquarters.
The civil society organizations of Kangpokpi had served four days ultimatum to the state government and authorities concerned to fulfill their long pending demand of adequate staff nurses and other manpower as per the MGEL sanctioned posts in the district hospital.
KSO Sadar Hills General Secretary, Thangtinlen Haokip, on behalf of the CSOs Kangpokpi said that “the ultimatum served on the state government and the authorities concerned had expired on Monday with no response compelling us to take our own course of action. He also said if the state government and the authorities concerned fail to address our demand even during the imposition of the total shutdown, then various intense forms of agitation will be further taken up”.
He recalled that despite the intolerable situation after putting several efforts for more than a year back to draw the attention of the state government and the authorities concerned in the form of a peaceful and sincere plea to address the grievances of the people owing to the shortage of staff nurses and other manpower at the district hospital, they turned a deaf ear.
He further recalled that 14 staff nurses have been sanctioned as per MGEL sanctioned post at the District Hospital, but till now only four staff nurses are posted, and unfortunately, out of the four staff nurses, one has been posted at PHSC Parsain under PHC Kalapahar as CHO under NHM, rendering the remaining only three staff nurses to serve the patients at the hospital.
It is very clear to all what would be the quality of service provided in the hospital with just only three staff nurses, especially at this juncture when huge patients are admitted to the hospital, he added.
He also said that apart from the acute shortage of staff nurses, out of 3 sanctioned LDC posts, none were available at present and only one ambulance driver was posted out of 2 sanctioned posts.
Despite one Chowkidar sanctioned post, no Chowkidar is currently available in the district hospital, and only one sweeper is available out of two sanctioned posts while despite three Grade-IV posts, only one is available.
KSO Sadar Hills General Secretary then urged all like-minded people of the state and civil society organizations, intellectuals, etc. to understand the situation and render maximum support and cooperation in the largest interest of public health and medical issues.
He also appeals especially to the people of Kangpokpi district to extend every possible assistance during the total shutdown for the cause of quality health services at the district hospital Kangpokpi.
