Thangmeiband Assembly constituency MLA suggested the government to divert Rs 20 lakh each from MLAs’ local area development fund and procure oxygen immediately to save life

As many people are dying for oxygen in the state, Thangmeiband Assembly constituency MLA Khumukcham Joykishan on Saturday pitched in to tackle the oxygen crisis in the state and suggested the government to divert Rs 20 lakh each from MLAs’ local area development fund.
He also urged the government to convene a one-day Assembly session to discuss only Covid situation in the State. Despite the best efforts put in by the government, no relief is in sight in Manipur with spiraling covid-19 positive cases and death toll, the MLA said.
Time has come to sit together among the elected representatives to find out the best strategy to fight the pandemic and save lives, he added.
Joykishan said Ukhrul denizens raised Rs 5 lakh for procuring oxygen through crowdfunding. Such initiative was taken to help save precious life gasping for oxygen, he said.
Suggesting the diversion of Rs 20 lakh each from 60 MLAs, he said MLA local area development funds are meant for people. The state government could raise Rs 12 crore from MLAs’ local area development fund and procure oxygen to save life in this pandemic situation, he added.
While welcoming the chief minister announcement offering incentives for health workers, the MLA urged him to include the police personnel, who are working day and night to ensure people to follow Covid appropriate behaviours, in the incentive scheme.
Joykishan also suggested cancellation of MLAs’ foreign and study tour for the year 2021-2022. Funds earmarked for such trips should be allocated to incentivize frontline workers like health workers and police personnel, he said.
