Integrated Check Post Moreh gets Indian Customs EDI System

The ICES was launched by Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs Chairman Vivek Johri virtually and the inaugural plaque was unveiled by Commissioner of Customs (Preventive) NER Shillong GM Kamei (IRS).

In order to make the functioning of customs clearance transparent and efficient, an Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) facility was introduced at Integrated Check Post (ICP) Moreh with the inauguration of Indian Customs EDI System (ICES) at the check post on Friday.

The ICES was launched by Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs Chairman Vivek Johri virtually and the inaugural plaque was unveiled by Commissioner of Customs (Preventive) NER Shillong GM Kamei (IRS). Superintendent SK Gangte LCS/Moreh, officials and personnel of Assam Rifles and Police attended the inaugural function held at Auditorium Hall of ICP/LCS Moreh.

Briefing the officials, traders and media persons, GM Kamei said ICES is designed to exchange/transact customs clearance related information electronically using Electronic Data Interchange (EDI).

“The ICES is simply a system software for doing business in international trade by providing various services online instantly. It is now operational at 245 major customs locations handling nearly 98% of India’s International trade in terms of import and export consignments. ICES has two aspects,” he said.

Internal Automation of the Custom House for a comprehensive, paperless, fully automated customs clearance system will make the functioning of Customs clearance transparent and efficient, he added.

GM Kamei also said that ICES is an online, real-time electronic interface with the trade, transport, Banks and regulatory agencies concerned with customs clearance of import and export cargo through ICEGATE.

A large number of documents that trade, transport and regulatory agencies (collectively called Trading Partners) are required to submit/ receive in the process of live customs clearance are now being processed online, he added.

He informed that to get registered for import and export business, documents like. Importer Exporter Code No. (IEC), GST Registration Copy, Bank AD Code letter with IFSC code on bank’s letterhead, documents for KYC and registration of the company to customs.

Once registered, import and export business will be hassle free, he added.

The inaugural programme was organised by Customs Preventive Commissionerate, North Eastern Region and Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs, Ministry of Finance, Government of India. Addl SP Moreh, import export licence holders, traders, individuals, and community leaders also attended the programme.
