With a commitment to work for the welfare of the community, the intending candidate to represent Ward No 16 in the ensuing ULB elections from Dimapur, A Obangmenla Jamir, on Wednesday said that under the guidance of the colony council, she would carry on the responsibilities shouldered upon her in promoting the very essence of a model colony or mini-India where people from different communities and varied culture are residing in the ward at peace.
Obangmenla Jamir was addressing at her candidacy declaration programme for the ensuing ULB election held at Council Hall, Kevijau Colony, Dimapur.
Stating that she had been on the run for the NDPP ticket from which party she intended to contest the ULB election but deprived of the same and issued to an “outsider”, she, however, maintained as having served as general secretary of the women organization of the colony till date, she stands firm to be in the fray as an independent candidate to fulfil the mandate of her supporters and residents of the colony and ward members.

Also expressing her humbleness that an opportunity has been given to her on a big platform to represent the people, she thanked the Almighty for the opportunity given as she explained that this was in the 30 years of history of the Kevijau Colony, Dimapur, residents are united for a positive change as election slogan read “Uniting for Positive Change” with also the residents becoming more refined and polished.
Calling on for social participation, A Obangmenla Jamir, also mentioned that if elected she would dedicate herself to community advancement, development, and women empowerment, advocate for transparency and accountability in governance, cultivate youth potential and foster opportunities for entrepreneurship, amplify young voices to drive positive change, and to protect the rights of minority communities of Ward No 16.
Short speeches were also delivered by Kevijau Colony chairman, Nokchi Jamir, Pankaj Sinha, youth advisory board member, Kevijau Colony, Akho Suokhrie, Aliang Zeliang, and executive member, Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASUD), Talitoshi.
Chaired by Limakokla, Bible reading and invocation was proposed by United Mission Baptist Church, Kevijau Colony, pastor, Rev Johnson John, dedication of symbol and special prayer for the candidate was conducted by associate pastor, Signal Fellowship, DABA, Imtiakum, while the vote of thanks was delivered by council member, Kevijau Colony, Chingdin Konyak.
