In an unfortunate pre-poll-related incident, Ningthoujam Rohit was shot dead at Heirok Part 3 Mayai Leikai in the wee hours of December 22.

Ningthoujam Roshan, the elder brother of the student who was shot dead in the wee hours of December 22 at Heirok in a poll, has accused Thokchom Putro, the younger brother of present MLA of Heirok assembly constituency, of spearheading the violence and shooting his brother, Ningthoujam Rohit.
Addressing media persons at Heirok Part 3, Mayai Leikai on Wednesday, Ningthoujam Roshan said that he was present in the house when Thokchom Putro along with some 14 to 15 individuals attacked their house. Putro shot dead Rohit and also shot my father, Ningthoujam Premchandra who is being treated at the moment, he said.
“Although we couldn’t identify all of them, some of them have been named in the FIR complaint that has been lodged at the police station,” he added.

Stating that such poll related incidents have been occurring in the assembly constituency for the past couple months, Ningthoujam Roshan also urged the chief minister to give befitting punishments to those named in the FIR.

“The government of Manipur had not taken these incidents seriously and there had been no solutions to all the past problems. No culprits were booked and punished. Since these small incidents were not solved in the past, now we have cases of blatant killing of persons,” he said.
Ningthoujam Roshan also urged the student organisations in the state to take the matter seriously and also support the family so that the real cause and sequence of events are properly probed.
“We request the present government to take the matter seriously. We also request the CM to disqualify the current MLA. His younger brother is responsible for the destruction and mayhem and allow physically assaulting many people in Heirok,” he added.
Ningthoujam Roshan said that the culprits came to his house and when they couldn’t find him, they killed his younger brother.
“If you can, then kill me and kill all of us if he thinks that he can win the elections by killing. Rule Heirok assembly constituency by killing people,” he asserted.
Ningthoujam Roshan further announced that the present MLA of Heirok, Thokchom Radheshyam will be boycotted in the Heirok AC. “We will not allow him to go anywhere or even pass through our locality. If they can kill my brother and shield all those involved, then we can also start killing people and we should be apprehended.”
He also said that the people of the locality also expressed their resentment over the way the police reacted. In their own presence, the killing took place, he added.
