Six accused persons, arrested for murder Ningthoujam Rohit in Heirok, are not co-operating in police investigation, police said. Police have examined the six accused persons one after another and recorded their statements. They denied the charges labeled against them, he added.
Ningthoujam Rohit was shot dead in the wee hours of December 22 at Heirok in a poll-related violence. According to the post mortem examination report, Rohit’s death was due to injury to the heart and lung resulting from fire arm injury (shot gun) to the body fired from a short range. Six persons, including the younger brother of the sitting MLA of Heirok assembly constituency, were arrested in connection with the murder.
Meanwhile, the arrested identified as Thokchom Henrik @ Naobi Singh (29) S/O Th. Ibosana Singh of Heirok Part 1 Mayai Leikai; Khundongbam Nicky @ Anju Singh(33) S/O Kh. Raghuchandra Singh of Heirok Part 2 Mayai Leikai; Laishram Biken Singh (23) S/O L. Bimol Singh of Heirok Part 2 Mayai Leikai; Thokchom Bishworjit @ Putro Singh (40) S/O Th. Ibochouba Singh of Heirok Part 2 Thokchom Leikai; Ningthoujam Panan Singh (30) S/O N. Muhindro Singh of Heirok Part 3 Tourangbam Leikai; and Thokchom Sanathoi @ Lai Singh (34) S/O Th. Dijen @ Lakpati Singh of Heirok Part 2 Mayai Leikai were sent to 15-day judicial custody till January 18.
According to I/O of case Addl SP(Ops) Thoubal Sachidananda Solbam, house searches were conducted at the house of Khundongbam Nicky, Thokchom Henrik, Laishram Biken Singh , Thokchom Sanathoi , Ningthoujam Panan Singh on January 2 but no incriminating articles including weapons of offence were not found at the time of house searches.
The six arrested persons have refused to disclose the real facts of the case and whereabouts of the weapon of offence which was used in the commission of the crime so as to dissuade themselves from the liability of the case, he said.
All the six arrested accused persons stated before the I/O while recording their statement that they were sleeping at their bed in the intervening night of December 21 and 22 when the incident happened. However, it is clearly evident from the analysis of their Call Data Record (CDR) that they were not cooperating in investigation of the case and are giving false information to the 1/O, police added.
Police further said from the examination of witnesses and evidence so far gathered during Investigation, it is learnt that the six arrested accused committed the crime by using firearms and other dangerous weapons. At the time of commission of crime, the witnesses saw the scene of crime and they were the eyewitnesses of the crime who fully supported the facts of the case, they added.
From the letter of District Magistrate, Thoubal, it is learnt that the six arrested accused persons were using unauthorized firearms at the time of commission of the crime.
