Congress MLA K Meghachandra has slammed the state BJP led government stating that it has “completely” failed in its “War against Drugs” campaign. In fact, it is not even a campaign, it has become mere rhetoric, he added.
Meghachandra was giving the keynote address at the Two Days Joint Session of MPCC Office Bearers and PCC Members on Wednesday held at the Congress Bhawan, BT Road, Imphal.
Accusing the state government of encouraging the “drug-lords and its patrons”, he alleged that high-profile BJP leaders are involved in interfering with court’s proceedings. The session will give an opportunity to discuss how to root out the drug-lords from the soil of the state, he added.
Maintaining that the “white-collar crimes” committed by the “drug-lords” related to contraband, narcotics, drugs and psychotropic substances are on the rise, Meghachandra asserted that these drug-lords are not only destroying the present youths, but they are also dismantling the future of the indigenous people of the state.
“These drug-lords are very much in connivance with the creep and self-interested people in power. And they are attacking our survival to eliminate all of us from the soil of Manipur,” he said.
He further said that the Congress party has been demanding CBI enquiry into drugs-related cases involving high profile people. But to date no such enquiry has been initiated since the present BJP led state government came to power, he added.
The Congress MLA said that the session is being held to stop the “divisive communal forces” by uniting and to fight against it for the future of the people of the state and the nation as a whole.
The session will also give an opportunity to the PCC members to address their grievances and strengthen the party, he said.
Meghachandra further added that the party should expose the misdeed and “anti-people” policies of the government with the upcoming 2022 Assembly Election in mind.
Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das highlighted the achievements of the Congress governments since Jawaharlal Nehru’s time till Manmohan Singh’s. He stressed that the Congress workers need to know these achievements and counter the narrative created by the BJP.
Congress Working Committee member Gaikhangam, Congress Legislature Party leader Okram Ibobi, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president Govindas Konthoujam, MLAs, former MLAs, and other office bearers attended the first day of the session.
