FEGOCTA threatens to boycott online classes, examinations

The college teachers are in triple shock due to COVID-19 pandemic, repeated betrayals since 2019 and discrimination, FEGOCTA said

Federation of Government College Teachers’ Association, Manipur warned of boycott of online classes and examinations if the state government fails to issue the orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 by June 30, 2021.

The decision was taken in an online executive committee meeting of FEGOCTA held on June 20, 2021.

The college teachers are in triple shock due to COVID-19 pandemic, repeated betrayals since 2019 and discrimination. For over ten years the government college teachers have been deprived of the complete salary. Before COVID-19, the benefits of 7th pay were already extended to the college teachers in other states of India and other Manipur government employees, stated FEGOCTA in a release on Tuesday.

Maintaining that the interest and career of students during COVID-19 pandemic are important, the release stated that FEGOCTA Online lectures of 6th, 4th, 2nd Semesters of BA and BSc with notes are available in FEGOCTA website www.fegocta.org and can also be viewed on YouTube.              

FEGOCTA said that since June 14, 2021 the online classes are in full swing and college teachers are working at home and spending from three hours to eight hours in a day. Teaching-learning is taking place through online mode and examinations will take place online during COVID-19. In the case of any unfortunate disturbances on the online classes and examinations after June 30, FEGOCTA insisted that the Higher Education Department shall take sole responsibility.

FEGOCTA furrher said that it has submitted a letter on June 21, 2021 to the education minister, the chief secretary, the secretary to chief minister and the commissioner, Higher Education highlighting the decisions of FEGOCTA. 

The college teachers’ association alleged that the Higher Education Department has failed to honour and implement MOU of March 6, 2021, cabinet approval of March 27, 2021 and assurances given by chief minister N Biren Singh and education minister in Manipur Legislative Assembly on February 9, 2021.

FEGOCTA also mentioned that the cash payment of 7th UGC pay is from July, 2021 as per above mentioned MOU and cabinet approval.
