It was unfortunate that instead of releasing the funds for the concerned department, a concerted effort has been made to cast the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in bad light on social media platforms, Bimola said.

Imphal East district Zilla Parishad adhyaksa P Bimola Devi on Sunday urged concerned authorities not to pitch job card holders against the PRIs and to deliver justice without any bias. As people are not able to go out and work outside due to the prevailing situations induced by COVID-19 pandemic, Bimola also urged them to release their wages and MC funds.

In a release, Bimola criticised RD & PR minister Th Biswajit for not honouring the agreement reached between him and PRIs of Manipur till date. PRIs and job card holders of the state have not received anything, even as the Government of India had released Rs 485 crore for MGNREGA on March 18, 2021, she added.

Bimola said that on National Panchayat Day, April 24, representatives of Ad-hoc committee, president and secretary of Panchayat Parishad and minister Biswajit reached an agreement. According to the agreement, 50 percent of the said amount, Rs 485 crore were to be released by April 30 and the remaining by May 20, 2021.

By not releasing the said amount, PRIs of Imphal East and Imphal West take it as an insult to the PRIs and villagers of the state, Bimola asserted.

She also contended by releasing Rs 160 crore on Saturday, the minister is trying to fool the people. It is very unfortunate that of Rs 65081.4 meant for liabilities for the financial year 2020-2021, only Rs 160 crore has been released, she added.

“We, the PRIs, are not going to take this money. Why the funds for MC of the PRIs and the wages of job card holders have not been released even after the conclusion of the financial year,” she asked.

Bimola further said that it was unfortunate that instead of releasing the funds for the concerned department, a concerted effort has been made to cast the PRIs in bad light on social media platforms.
