Doctors’ Protest leaves Ukhrul Hospitals in limbo

The doctors expressed their grievances and further alleged the lackadaisical attitude of state government towards them. Despite the association repeated appraisal and approached to resolve the pending issues and demands, the silence of the government have compelled them to resort into extreme form of democratic agitation.

The lone District Hospital and 6 Primary Health Center, 1 Community Health Center and 18 Sub Center situated and operating at Ukhrul District are affected by the ongoing sit-in-protest of doctors at District Hospital, Hungpung, Ukhrul

The doctors of Ukhrul District join hands with All Manipur Health Services Doctors’ Association (AMHSDA) in demanding the Association’s charter of demand for their common welfare.

During the protest, the doctors expressed their grievances and further alleged the lackadaisical attitude of state government towards them. Despite the association repeated appraisal and approached to resolve the pending issues and demands, the silence of the government have compelled them to resort into extreme form of democratic agitation.

Their demands are: time bound promotion, enhancement of superannuation age to 65 years as declared by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, creation of Director General post and under: a) Director Health Services b) Director Family Wlefare Services c) Director Public Health d) Director Medical Education, NPA fixation with effect from 01/01/2016 as per 7th Central Pay Commission. Abide strictly the Transfer and Posting Policy of Health Services 2017, any MHS Doctors be eligible to the highest post by virtue of their seniority, Implementation of proposed MHS Rules 2020 and Amendments and provision of risks and difficult area posting allowances.

The protesting doctors stated that their demand for time bound promotion, enhancement of superannuation age to 65 years, NPA fixation with effect from 01/01/2016 as per 7th Central Pay Commission and implementation of proposed MHS Rules 2020 can be fulfilled by the State Government.

The protesting doctors also mentioned that “Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), which is under Manipur Government, has been granted 7th Central Pay Commission. However, the Manipur Health Services Doctor are being sideline and denied the same facilities.”

Patients coming for treatment from far-flung areas are facing problems since the OPD at District Hospital is closed and has stopped admitting new patients. They could be seen appealing the doctors for examining their health problems. Since the OPD is closed, no new patients are admitted today. The protesting doctors also appeal to the general public to bear the inconveniences.
