Reports coming in said Athaun Abonmai, the former president of the Zeliangrong Baudi was first kidnapped by unknown persons from Tamenglong.

The dead body of former Zeliangrong Baudi president Athaun Abonmai was found near Pallong in Tamenglong district on Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the Joint Tribe Council (JTC) of the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme had informed that the former President of Zeliangrong Baudi (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) was reportedly kidnapped by some “unknown persons” from Tamenglong.
The JTC had appealed to those responsible for the kidnapping to “release him safely at the earliest on humanitarian ground”.
Sources said that community leaders while expressing shock with the news, felt that the death of Apou Athaun Abonmai is a great loss for the Zeliangrong community. “He was a mentor and a truth guidance for many of us. His body was found near Pallong”, said a source.
The Machengluang Villagers were having a meeting in the evening at the time of filing this story. Exact details of the incident were still not known.
