Day after DMU teachers suspend agitation, heads roll

Two teachers were shifted with immediate effect. The orders left student and teaching community of the university shocked and surprised.

A day after the Ad hoc Committee of the constituent colleges of the Dhanamanjuri University temporarily had called off their agitation, two teachers, who were active in agitation were shifted with immediate effect.

According to orders issued by Commissioner (Hr & Tech Edn) M Harekrishna, who is also vice-chancellor  in-charge of the DMU, English Associate Professor B Shantikumar Sharma was transferred to Kha Manipur College, Kakching while Political Science Assistant Professor A Noni, an utilized teacher in DM College of Arts, has been repatriated to his previous Moirang College.

They have been asked to join their new places of posting immediately under intimation to the government.

Associate Professor B Shantikumar Sharma was one of the convenors of the Ad hoc Committee.

Both the teachers were among representatives of the Ad hoc Committee which had met chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday.

The orders left the student and teaching community of the university shocked and surprised.

The Ad hoc committee has been observing a series of agitations by abstaining from online and offline classes of both UG and PG classes and staging sit-in protests against the failure of the concerned authority to fulfill their demands.

The teachers of the constituent colleges have been urging the DMU authority to settle the case of the absorption of the existing teachers of the constituent colleges before any process for fresh recruitment.

It may be noted that a team of the Ad hoc Committee met DMU vice-chancellor M Harekrishna, IAS and registrar of Nivedita Lairenlakpam. They had a thorough discussion on the issue of the absorption of the existing teachers of the constituent colleges and other related matters of DMU, said K Anthony Singh, co-convenor of the ad hoc committee.

Later in the evening, they also had a meeting with chief minister N Biren Singh in his office chamber. The meeting was attended by education minister S Rajen Singh and the V-C of DMU.

After the meeting, the chief minister had tweeted that he had a fruitful meeting with representatives of the agitating teachers of Adhoc Committee of the Constituent Colleges of Dhanamanjuri University, Manipur, in the presence of Minister Education S Rajen Singh, and Commissioner, Higher Education, at his office.
