Senior Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das on Wednesday lambasted the BJP-led Manipur government and took a swipe at chief minister N Biren Singh’s pet project “CM da Haisi”, stating that it is nothing but a “laughing stock”. Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee also launched its alternate version “Sarkar Taribra?”.
“CM da Haisi” (Let’s say to the chief minister), is an initiative of CM Biren aimed at listening to the grievances of the people of the state on various issues.
Launching the new initiative “Sarkar Taribra?” (Is the government listening?), at the Congress Bhawan, Imphal on Wednesday, Bhakta Charan Das maintained that a team will do the needful to highlight the views and grievances of the people ignored by the present government. Anyone can call on the toll-free number — 8696969211, and the platform will bring Congress party closer to the masses of the state, he added.
Attacking the chief minister, the AICC Manipur in-charge asked, “How can a person (CM Biren) who has mercilessly imposed restrictions on the freedom of expression listen to the people’s grievances?”
Taking a dig at CM Biren, Bhakta Charan Das also maintained that the chief minister has felt the need to listen to the grievances of the people after being in power for 4.5 years and just before the election. As there is no transparency on the part of the government, how can the people trust “CM da Haisi”, he added.
“By making such a programme, he (CM Biren) is laughing at the people and voters of the state. Only CM Biren can make this type of joke on the people of Manipur,” he asserted.
Bhakta Charan Das also asked, “How many corrupt officials have been punished over the last 4.5 years?”, while asserting that sincere officers have been punished.
He also accused the chief minister of being busy in running the government through manipulation, while ignoring the issues of the masses.
On the other hand, MPCC vice president Kh Devbrata asserted that the CM Biren’s pet projects including Go to Village, Go to Hills, Meeyamgi Numit, CM da Haisi, are “propaganda schemes”.
Stating that the Rules of Business of the Government of Manipur is set up under Article 166 and a redressal system already exists, he said the state should be governed with rule of law and not at the whims of an individual.
