Condolences pour in for Ima Momon Leima

Meira Paibi activist Ima Momon Leima succumbed to COVID-19 on July 16 at JNIMS

Many continued to condole the death of respected Meira Paibi activist Ima Momon Leima who succumbed to COVID-19 on July 16 at JNIMS.

Thangmeiband Apunba Nupi Lup (THANIL) lamented that her death is an irreparable loss not only for the people of Manipur, but the Meira Paibi movement.

In a statement, THANIL said that Ima Momon Leima relentlessly led many crucial movements regarding territorial integrity, indegenous people, AFSPA, amongst others. THANIL also extended their heartfelt condolence with her family in this time of grief.

On the other hand, members of Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) paid floral tribute to a photograph of the late Meira Paibi activist at a simple function held at its head office, Konung Mamang Pureiromba Khongnang Makhong, Imphal East maintaining COVID SOP on Saturday.

The All Manipur Students’ Union(AMSU) expressed their deepest condolences on the passing of Soibam (o) Momon Leima, popularly known as Ima Momon.

Condoling her death, the student organisation also praised her courage and perseverance while fighting for justice. No intimidation or hurdle could deter her from raising her voice. She was amongst the 12 daring mothers who disrobed themselves in front of the historic Kangla Fort in protest against AFSPA in 2004. AMSU recalled honoring her and the other 11 with Lifetime Achievement Award on International Womens’ Day in 2019.

In a statement, AMSU mentioned that Ima Momon never hesitated to help and guide young people in times of difficulties. She was known not only for her resistance to fight despite many challenges, but also for her human warmth.

The student body stated that her demise is an irreparable loss for the state and extended their heartfelt condolence with her family in this time of grief.
