The Loktak Project Affected Hills Area Chief Association, Churachandpur appealed to the Government of Manipur for a “fair, sufficient and regular” supply of PDS, NFSA and PMGKAY scheme and essential items distribution for the people of the area.
The secretary of the association, THD Wakanrei said that the Loktak Project area lies in the northern part of Churachandpur district Headquarter comprising of Aimol, Chiru, Kom, Rongmei, and other communities under Kangvai subdivision of Henglep Constituency.
The people of the area which consist of mostly farmers and daily wage earners also face enough hardship due to sudden imposition of lockdown as a preventive measure for combating the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.
Comparing to the whole population of the area, there are very less NPFSA card holders village wise which we would like to consider as a fallout of the negligence of government and district administration resulting in getting only few supply of NFSA and PDS commodities in the area which in no way can be adequately distributed to the whole population, Wakanrei said.
“Since our area has a population of 10,000 above, we demand to set up a COVID care center in the area with adequate equipment and facilities including manpower as the COVID-19 positive cases are increasing day by day at an alarming rate in the area,” he added.
Since the Henglep AC local representative has resigned from the Member of legislative assembly (MLA), the area has been without a representative to voice our grievances and the area has since been deprived of the above mentioned schemes and other government aid.
“Therefore, we appeal to the district administration and the chief minister to look into the affairs of the minority communities of the Loktak project area of Churachandpur district with utmost concern and consideration,” he added.
