The Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM) declared the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exam results for 2024 on Monday, May 27. This year, the Board recorded an overall pass percentage of 93.03%.

A total of 37,547 students appeared for the Class 10 examination conducted by the Board, with 18,995 male students and 18,552 female students. Out of these, 34,931 students passed, resulting in a pass percentage of 93.03%. One student’s result is withheld. The HSLC exams were conducted from March 15 to April 3, 2024, across the state.

According to official data, the overall pass percentage of 93.03% for HSLC 2024 marks an improvement over the last two years, with pass percentages of 76% in 2022 and 82.82% in 2023.

In terms of district-wise performance, Tengnoupal district achieved the highest pass percentage at 99.65%, followed by Thoubal at 99.04% and Bishnupur at 97.32%. Jiribam district recorded the lowest pass percentage at 50.71%.

Gyan Prakash, Commissioner of Education (U), announced that this year the marking system has been replaced with a grading system to enhance overall student performance without causing undue pressure and stress. The HSLC grading system includes grades from A1 to E2. Students received grades for each subject instead of total or aggregate marks, and no division or rank was awarded—only the qualification status was printed.

Gyan Prakash said that this decision by the Government of Manipur aims to reduce competition among students and alleviate their stress and burden.

Controller of Examinations Ayam Thoi Singh provided some important information to the student. He maintained that the Board introduced Grades and Grade Points System without display of marks in the Certificate-cum-Grade Statement in pursuance of a government order dated the 15th March, 2024 and the BOSEM’s resolution in its meeting held on 20-04-2024. “The adoption of the new system is in line with NEP-2020 which aims to enhance the overall performance of the student, without giving undue pressure and stress to the candidates. The original Certificate-cum-Grade Statement will be issued to all the candidates after the announcement of the HSLC Examination,” he said.

He announced that the authorized officials of the schools may collect the Certificate-cum-Grade Statement of the examination from June 14, 2024. Provisional Certificate-cum-Grade Statement will be issued to the candidates from May 31, 2024 on payment of Rs 1500/- (with Rs. 100/- as cost of application form), he added.

He further said unsuccessful candidates of the H.S.L.C. Examination, 2024 who want to sit the HSLC Examination, 2025 as regular candidate may be re-admitted to Class-X in their respective schools within 45 days of the date of announcement of the results. “The schools are to send the names of such newly admitted students to the Board within 60 days of the announcement of the result. Internal marks for these re-admitted students are to be entered in the application form,” he added.

Any candidate who is desirous of re-scrutinizing his/her answer scripts may apply in the prescribed form from June 3 to June 15 2024 with a fee of Rs. 2100/- (non refundable) per subject which is inclusive of cost of application form. No application after the last date and also without the requisite fees shall be entertained. It may be noted that re-scrutiny of answer scripts does not mean re-evaluation/re-examination of the evaluated scripts, he said.
