BJP’s nominee and Mahila Morcha President, S Phangnon Konyak, is all set to become the first woman to be elected to the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Nagaland.
S Phangnon filed her nomination paper on Monday, the last day of filing nomination, in the office of the Returning Officer (RO) of the Biennial Elections 2022 at Assembly Secretariat, Kohima.
Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, and Nagaland State BJP President, Temjen Imna Along, with host of party workers were present during the filing of the nomination.
Talking to media persons after filing her nomination, Phangnon Konyak, said that she felt elated that her party has always been focused on “women empowerment”. This has given her the opportunity to take the aspirations of the people forward in a “practical way”, she said.
Phangnon Konyak pointed out that BJP at the Centre is very “accommodative” and that this would bring “practical changes” in Nagaland. She added that women in Nagaland represent around 50 percent of the vote share and has been “very active politically”.
