Federation of Government College Teachers’ Association (FEGOCTA) on Friday asserted that restoration of online classes and examinations in the government colleges in Manipur is now at the hands of the Higher Education Department led by the education minister, as action by other departments including finance has been already completed.

In a release, FEGOCTA maintained that college teachers are not against any authority and the students’ interests. The present 6th FEGOCTA agitations are emotional outbursts of the college teachers against discrimination, repeated betrayals, and unacceptable delays by the government since 2018, it added.

“Why only over 2,000 government college teachers in Manipur are singled out and discriminated against in the implementation of national policy?”

The 6th FEGOCTA agitations of boycotting of online classes and examinations in the government colleges of Manipur including those under Dhanamajuri University entered the second day on Friday. The agitations were launched after the government gave no response and the failure to issue orders of the national policy of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations, 2018 by June 30, 2021 deadline set by FEGOCTA.

On June 21, 2021 FEGOCTA submitted a letter requesting the education minister, chief secretary, etc. to honour the MOU of March 6, 2021 and issue the orders by June 30, it added.

Stating that 7th pay was granted to other employees of Manipur Government in 2019 before COVID-19, FEGOCTA said that college teachers in other states including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Tripura were granted 7th UGC Pay in 2018 and 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic.

FEGOCTA also asserted that the delays are too long and it is unreasonable.

“What happened to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India’s Mission of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, and Sabka Vishwas to the College Teachers in Manipur?”

FEGOCTA maintained that it will not accept any further delay or failure to implement the national policy of UGC in Manipur anymore.
