Amidst widespread condemnation and outcry for stringent punishment for the culprits sexually assaulting a girl believed to be from Northeast in a viral video, the Assam Police on Thursday announced rewards for any information on the five culprits. Police also shared the pictures of those culprits seen in the video.
The Assam Police took to Twitter to announce rewards and shared the images of five culprits, who were seen brutally torturing the young girl in the viral video.
“Though the time or place of this incident is not clear from the viral video, we are reaching out to proactively locate the culprits,” said the Assam Police.
“Anyone with information regarding this crime or the criminals may please contact us. They will be rewarded handsomely. We must stand together to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice,” Assam police tweeted.
Earlier, the viral video was circulated, saying it is related to the recent incident that happened in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur, where a 25-year-old Naga woman allegedly committed suicide. The sister of the deceased and the police have verified the viral video, and confirmed that the video is not of the Naga woman in Jodhpur, informed the Additional Director General of Police, Delhi Police and Special Commissioner, Robin Hibu IPS.
“We are trying to identify the girl in the viral video, also the perpetrators for further action,” Hibu said.
Union minister Kiren Rijiju also confirmed that the video is not related to the Jodhpur suicide case.
“However, there must be all out efforts by all State Police to catch the devils,” he tweeted.
TIPRA leader Pradyot Manikya also tweeted expressing his anguish over the video.
“Feel sick in my gut after seeing what they did to the girl,” he tweeted.

The group kept assaulting and torturing the victim even she cried for help. They stripped her naked and continued the abuse. As the video went viral, demand for justice began to grow.
