An ambulance belonging to the Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur Branch was prevented by the army personnel from heading towards Yaingangpokpi area in Imphal East district on Friday afternoon.
As per a complaint by Red Cross Manipur chapter chairman and noted actor/playwright Narendra Ningomba, a team with the ambulance was heading to the spots identified as a volatile spot on Friday but they were prevented from heading towards the area.
The vice-president of Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur Branch has alleged that minister for public health engineering and consumer and food affairs L Sushindro also allegedly gave a negative comment on the efforts of the Red Cross towards providing humanitarian service.
The Minister had reportedly stated, “If you want to have Geneva convention protocol, then please go to Geneva”, said Y Mohen. He said that such conduct of a minister borders towards being “irresponsible and uneducated”. “Red Cross is allowed everywhere even during the severest of conflict and war torn areas. In Manipur, the case is different, the army and the minister who are supposed to understand the situation are the first to stop us,” Mohen told media.
