After a team of All Manipur United Clubs’ Organization (AMUCO) and Mahousa Kanba Lup on Saturday embarked on a journey to pray and plant trees at Mt Koubru, AMUCO president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang flagged of another team on Sunday from the AMUCO office at Kwakeithel.
Speaking on the occasion, Nando lamented that Koubru has become a barren land. Cutting down the trees around Koubru that used to be lush, wildfire, amongst others has gravely disturbed the ecology of Mt Koubru. The campaign is aimed at restoring the ecology and conservation of the mountain, he added.
The volunteers will plant trees and offer prayers to Lord Koubru, he said. People seem to have forgotten the message and history of the mountain, he lamented and urged the people to scale the mountain in order to feel the need to conserve Mt Koubru.
