All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) Imphal West District Committee on Thursday confiscated intoxicants worth Rs 4 lakhs belonging to one Nitishkumar of Thangal Bazar. The intoxicants were burnt in front of media persons at Lamphel by activists of the student body.
Speaking to media persons, AMSU Imphal West District Committee president Lukram Malangba said that due to the prevailing situations caused by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, many including daily wage workers are reeling under the hardships, confining to their homes. Amidst all this some are trying to earn money by selling such intoxicants. The time has come to put an end to such businesses ruining the state, he added.
Asserting that AMSU Imphal West District will continue to keep an eye on such businesses, he appealed to the public for support in such endeavour. He also urged the government to take action to ban such businesses.
Stating that there is fear amongst the public that due to the pandemic the state might face shortage of food, Malangba assured that the student body will extend all possible help to any measures taken up by the state government in this regard.
