Continuing its agitations demanding tabling of the contentious Manipur (Hill Area) Autonomous District Council, Bill 2021 in the Manipur Legislative Assembly, All Manipur Tribal Students’ Union Manipur has called a total shutdown in the entire hill districts on December 18, 2021 from 5 am to 5 pm.
The total shutdown has been called in line with the scheduled “mass protest rally” in Delhi by Manipur Tribal Forum Delhi (MTFD) on the same day, as per a release by the ATSUM.
The mass rally will be organised under the aegis of MTFD demanding “the introduction of HAC recommended ADC Bill 2021 in the Manipur Legislative Assembly, and in support of the collective tribal movement spearheaded by ATSUM, KSO-GHQ and ANSAM,” it added.
While reiterating its demand for tabling of the HAC recommended ADC Bill 2021 in the Manipur Legislative Assembly, ATSUM appealed to all and sundry to support the ADC bill movement till the demand is fulfilled. Should there be any inconveniences caused due to the total shutdown called for assertion of constitutional rights, it is deeply regretted, it added.
Meanwhile, the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Churachandpur, has said that it resolved to support the proposed ATSUM Shutdown.
“Considering the demand raised by ATSUM and MTFD as legitimate, the KSO-CCPur., in collaboration with other like-minded student bodies of Churachandpur District, has resolved to enforce the proposed shutdown from 05:00 am to 05:00 pm of 18th December 2021 in the District,” the student body said in a release on Thursday.
