COVID-19: Manipur logs highest single-day death toll with 23 more lives lost

582 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday, taking the number of active cases in the state to 6,817.

COVID-19 fatality remains a major concern in the fight against the deadly virus as Manipur on Wednesday reported a grim milestone of the highest single-day death toll as 23 lives succumbed to the disease. 

In the last 24 hours ending 5 pm Wednesday, 582 fresh cases were reported by the Health Department. The state positivity rate now stands at 18.82 percent. 

Active cases in the state surged to 6,817. Out of these 4,342 active cases are in home isolation. 

Out of the 23 deaths, six each were from Bishnupur and Imphal East, five from Imphal West, two each from Thoubal and Kakching, and one each from Ukhrul and Churachandpur. They passed away at Shija Hospital (4), CCC Bishnupur (4), Jivan Hospital (2), DH Churachandpur (1), Babina (1), JNIMS (6) and RIMS (5) hospital. 

The positive cases from the general population are from Imphal West (278), Imphal East (137), Churachandpur (51), Bishnupur (26), Kakching (20), Thoubal (19), Chandel (11), Ukhrul (11), Senapati (6), Kangpokpi (5), Tengnoupal (3), Tamenglong (2), and Pherzawl (1). 

347 persons were discharged during the last 24 hours from CAPF (26), Home Isolation (240), RIMS (10), JNIMS (1), BB (12), NSU (16), SHRI (8), Babina Speciality Hospital (2), CCC Lamboikhongnangkhong (5), Jivan Hospital (3), Thoubal (8), Bishnupur (2), Ukhrul (12), Kangpokpi (1), and Senapati (1). The recovery rate is 81.94 %.

As per the Health Department, in the last 24 hours, a total of 1,355 D type Oxygen Cylinders and 523 B-type Oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of Manipur. 

Air passengers who traveled to the state on (i) May 11, 2021 by Indigo flight 6E-2251 in rows 31-37 (ii) May 8, 2021 by Air India AI-889 in rows 18-24 have been instructed to inform the Common Covid Control Room 1800-345-3818 or respective District Surveillance Officers (DSO) for further surveillance and necessary testing. 

The total inflection in the state has now reached 41,265 with 635 deaths.
