An autopsy reports of the remaining three including eight months old child, who was among the six of a family allegedly abducted (taken hostage) and killed by suspected Kuki militants in Manipur’s Jiribam district earlier this month, revealed extensive injuries, ‘crushed skulls and bullet wounds’.
An autopsy report from Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) showed that a ten-month boy was found with “chop wound and dislocation of head” and eight-year old girl with “extensive injuries and lacerated injuries” because of bullet wounds.
Telem Thoibi, the 31-year old woman was also found with bullet injuries in the head, crushed scalp and “all skull bones with missing of membranes”.
Their bodies were recovered from the Barak River, which flows from Jiribam district in Manipur to Cachar in Assam. Upon reaching the SMCH mortuary on Nov 17, the infant was found wearing a T-Shirt and vest, but his body was in a state of decomposition.
The autopsy report of the two other persons, Laisram Baren Maitri (64) and Maibam Kesho (71), also found multiple injuries due to torture.
The report of Maibam Kesho revealed that his forearm including hand on right side and “skin is denuded and mixed flame burn”. “Diffuse bruise with erosion of skin present over lateral half right buttocks, greenish in colour”, revealed the report.
The report of Laishram Baren Meitei revealed “deep burn on whole body anteriorly and posteriorly with cooked appearance of soft tissue, abdominal and thoracic viscera along with vertebral column and spinal cord”.
The same report said that his skull bones were “burnt and found separated into pieces, whole face and inner part of oral cavity are charred”.
Two men were recovered from the debris in the Jakuradhor Karong area, Jiribam district, where armed militants set fire to some shops on November 11. The autopsy report of the other three members—Chingkheinganba Singh (3 years), L. Heitonbi Devi (25 years), and Y. Rani Devi (60 years)—had also revealed similar wounds. All six, members of a Meitei family, were abducted from a relief camp near the Borobekra police station. The cases was handed over to NIA for investigation.
