Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, who is also the Convenor of the Assembly’s Select Committee to examine the Nagaland-Assam Border Issue said that the committee is in favour of ‘out of court’ settlement of the long pending boundary disputes with its neighbouring state Assam.
He said this to the media persons after the meeting of Select Committee held on Monday.
According to an official bulletin, Rio said that that his team along with the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma would be meeting the Union Home Minister in the first part of February to formulate plans on how to go about the settlement.
Rio also said they had a fruitful discussion on the border issue with Assam Chief Minister on Sunday at Guwahati which was earlier taken up jointly with the Home Minister, Amit Shah.
He said taking into the account Meghalaya and Assam model, both the states governments have identified the Assam-Nagaland border to be divided into four sectors, thereafter, further discussion would be taken up after the meeting with the home minister.
Chief Minister Rio also said sharing of royalty on Petroleum and Natural Gas were also discussed.
Rio later added that if the border and royalty issues are resolved, it would be good for both sides as to remain neighbours.
