Local delivery services alleged that delivery executives have been detained by Manipur police despite the standing order of the home department exempting e-commerce delivery services from the purview of the ongoing curfew in the state.
The United Committee on Delivery Executives, Manipur, in a release on Friday, urged the state government and DGP to look into the matter and address the public to clarify the confusion.
It may be mentioned that on July 19, the chief secretary issued an order exempting certain activities including e-commerce delivery service.
“As a result, Manipur e-commerce stores have started their services on delivering essential day-to-day items, including vegetables, medicine, grocery items, sanitary items, baby foods, etc.”
However, the committee alleged that their delivery executives are being detained by police personnel stating that local e-commerces are not permitted to resume their service except for big e-commerce companies such as Amazon, Myntra, etc.
“This kind of act by the police personnel is unreasonable and illogical as per the notification issued by the Government of Manipur”.
The committee demanded transparency on the matter so that they can know the “exact picture”.
“Moreover, we deliver only essential items to our customers by risking our lives in an act to help people in this pandemic. All our employees are regularly tested for Covid-19, and most of them are vaccinated. We also follow strict SOPs in delivering our services”.
