Three active cadres of suspected Kuki militants’ group KNF (N) were arrested by a combined force of Imphal West police commando and a column of 15 Assam Rifles, police said on Monday.
Superintendent of Police Imphal West Dr S Ibomcha Singh said around 7.30 pm on October 24 an information was received about the presence of some active cadres of KNF(N) in adjoining areas of Moidangpok-New Keithelmanbi area.
Acting swiftly on the input, a combined team of CDO-IW led by Inspector P Achouba Meetei OC-CDO-IW and a column of 15 Assam Rifles under the command of Amarjit Singh Lamabam MPS ASP(Ops) IW and DSP CDO Y. Kishorchand Meitei rushed to the area, said the SP. The team arrested one active cadre of KNF(N) from the adjoining area of Keithelmanbi Moidangpok area near Korouhanba Oil Pump at 9.30 pm, he added.
Arrested cadre was later identified as Seigoulun Singsit (20) yrs. s/o (L) Paokhomang Singsit of K. Phoipi, Motbung. On preliminary examination, he disclosed that he is an active cadre of KNF(N) and working under the command of s/s Vice Chairman Mangsat Haokip and involved in kidnapping, extortion of money from general public and looting vehicles plying on NH-2.
On further questioning, he revealed that he along with six other cadres of KNF (N) under the command of s/s Chairman James Kipgen of Gangpijang village, Kangpokpi District and s/s Vice chairman Mangsat Haokip of N Boljang village, Kangpokpi District opened fired at the house of Village Chief of B Gamnom Village on October 12 morning killing three civilians, including a minor boy and injuring two other persons, police said.
Immediately without losing much time, the combined team of CDO IW and 15 AR were reorganized and rushed to Motbung and Sapermeina area along with the arrested person to arrest his associates. In the operation, another two more cadres of KNF(N) were also arrested from their respective houses.
They were identified as Henmintun Misao @ Kevin (29) yrs. s/o (L) Luminthang Misao of Kangchup Ponlen village Kangpokpi District and Hentinseh Singsit @ SP (30) yrs. s/o Janglam Singsit of Motbung Phoipi Veng, Kangpokpi District, police said.
Henmintun Misao was arrested around 3:30 am on Monday and one 9mm pistol and one magazine loaded with five 9mm bullets while Hentinseh Singsit @ SP was arrested 4:30 am on Monday and one .32 Pistol and one magazine loaded with 3(three) .32 calibre bullets and one mobile phone, recovered from him.
According to the police, on preliminary examinations, all the three arrested accused persons admitted that they were all KNF (N) cadres and involved in the firing incident at B Gamnom village on October 12 in which three civilians under the command of s/s Chairman James Kipgen and s/s Vice Chairman Mangsat Haokip of KNF (N).
