Vandalism, attack on JNIMS doctor: IMA, Manipur State Branch demands ‘exemplary punishment’

Indian Medical Association condemned such a heinous act of violence in hospitals when the state is facing the second wave of COVID 19 pandemic.

Indian Medical Association, Manipur State Branch demanded that the culprit involved in the violence against a doctor of JNIMS should be booked and given befitting punishment.

The association also warned that it will take up future courses of action if such instances of violence against medicare personnel and institutions continue without any legal actions against those responsible. The whole COVID care may be hindered by these acts of senseless violence, it added in a release on Sunday.

“It is a matter of great shame for the state and insults the whole medical community the manner in which the hospital properties were vandalised and a doctor on duty was manhandled at the COVID Ward of JNIMS Hospital on the night of 5h June, 2021 following the death of a patient,” it added.

The association asserted that the perpetrators of the violence should be given exemplary punishment and booked under the “Manipur Medicare Service Personnel and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage to Property) Act 2015” and “Epidemic Disease (Amendment) Ordinance 2020”.

The association also mentioned that it condoled the untimely demise of Okram (O) Gypsy Devi and shared the grief of the bereaved family.
