The proscribed United National Liberation Front, Manipur has convened its 9th General Assembly which is held once for every four years since 1984. The general assembly, which was convened from February 18 to 22, began by extending revolutionary salutes to those who had made supreme sacrifice for the sovereignty and independence of Manipur, said a statement issued by the banned outfit’s media coordinator Th Charairongba on Sunday.
The main agenda of the General Assembly was chalking out strategies to make the people’s movement for Independence “National People’s Democratic Revolution” successful, said the statement. Besides, the Constitution and General Programme of the outfit was vetted and amended to suit the present situation, it added.
After the statement of the outgoing Central Committee was read out and got clearance, the new central committee was constituted by the General Assembly. The General Assembly also selected the Central Committee chairman and handed over charge to the new office-bearers of the central committee, said the statement.
As per the statement, new office-bearers of the Central Committee are Kh. Pambei (Chairman); Ch. Thanil (General Secretary & Publicity-in-charge); I Tonsana (Secretary of Finance); N. Nongden (Secretary of Health & Family Welfare); Th. Sidabamapu (Secretary of External & Regional Affairs); S. Nongdol (Secretary of Organization); S. Pankhei (Secretary of Operation & Projects).
Moreover, the 9th Central Committee has given the charges of Chief of Army Staff of UNLF’s armed wing MPA to Colonel Ng Pamheiba and Vice Chief of Army Staff to Major Th Ningtamba, said the outfit.
Newly elected Chairman and Central Committee members, who took the oath to defend unity, to maintain secrecy of the outfit and not to betray the UNLF, will convert General Programme framed by the general assembly into action, said the statement.
The General Assembly has resolved to protect the unity and strengthen the party by keeping a close eye on situations of the people, state and changing global scenario.
