Following an exclusive TFM report pointing out the suspicious irregularities and abnormalities in the beneficiary list of Ishan Uday scholarship for the session 2020-21, the state government has directed the principals of government and government-aided colleges in Manipur to submit a verification report by August 10.
Director of University & Higher Education Rangitabali Waikhom on Tuesday issued a directive to all the principals in this regard.
The principals have been directed to constitute a college-level verification committee to be chaired by the principal concerned immediately, in regard to suspicious cases of applications under Ishan Uday scholarship in National Scholarship Portal.
The verification committee will scrutinize and verify the information and documents like domicile, religion/caste/tribe, economic status, etc submitted by the students selected for awarding Ishan Uday scholarship. Detailed full report/findings of the verification committee regarding genuineness of the selected students for the academic session 2020-21 must be submitted to the director of University & Higher Education, Manipur, on or before August 10, 2021 for onward submission to the government, the directive said.
Meanwhile, Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) has submitted a representation to the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, to investigate the alleged scam and issue a new beneficiary list.
Speaking to media persons, MSF vice-president Maibam Julesh said that the representation was also submitted to union minister of state for education RK Ranjan and education minister of Manipur S Rajen.
It may be mentioned that a group of students have also submitted a representation to the education minister on July 31 following the exclusive report by TFM.
