Due to the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases, the Tangkhul Co-ordination Forum on COVID-19 (TCFC) on Wednesday announced “public lockdown” in all the Tangkhul villages from midnight of May 5 to midnight of May 15, 2021.
The decision was taken to contain the increasing numbers of COVID-19 positive cases. Moreover, there is clear indication that community spread is already taking place, stated the information given out by TCFC. The lockdown will be enforced in all the Tangkhul villages.
TCFC had also requested the District Administrations of Ukhrul and Kamjong to allow minimum staff to attend the departmental offices during the said lockdown period.
On the other hand, the sudden announcement of lockdown by TCFC has created panic among the community. Some are complaining that no time was given for procuring essential items as all the shops in Ukhrul Headquarters closed at 3:00pm as per the orders issued by District Magistrate on April 30, 2021.
Ukhrul reported 11 cases in the last 24 hours and Kamjong nil. CMO Ukhrul informed that there are 53 active cases till date.
