In a shocking incident, 18 students from Chingai High School and 16 students from Paocham High School could not sit for their HSLC Examinations 2023 due to failure on the part of school authorities to fill up their examination forms.

In this regard, Somipam Vashum, president of Raphei Katamnao Long (RKL), the apex student body of the northern part of Ukhrul District, has appealed to the concerned authority to investigate the ongoing HSLC admit card fiasco. Somipam Vashum stated, “It is very unfortunate that 34 students are deprived of their opportunity to sit for HSLC Examination 2023 because of a reckless mistake unbecoming of a school Headmaster.”

In this connection, Minister for Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and Transport Khashim Vashum had on 14 March 2023 written to the Chairman, Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BOSEM), requesting him to look into the matter for extending any possible help to let the students appear the said examination on the humanitarian ground after he was reportedly approached by the concerned school authorities.

It was reported that the HSLC Examination Centre of Chingai witnessed a little commotion on Thursday before the exam started. The commotion died down after the representatives of parents and school authorities of Chingai came to an agreement.

As per the agreement, the school authorities will explore all possible means to make alternative arrangements to enable the students to appear in compartmental exams or any nearest possible examination during the academic session.

It was also agreed that the Headmaster of Chingai High School will refund the form fill-up amount.

The agreement also said that the Headmaster of Chingai High School will bear the examination form fill-up amount for the next nearest examination.

The agreement was signed by R David, Headmaster Chingai Government High School and representatives of parents K.S. Ringshangphy and Thotreipem Keitang.

President of RKL, Somipam Vashum, expressed his disappointment over the agreement entered between the Headmaster of Chingai Government High School and representatives of parents. “It is just an eyewash to avoid responsibility and at the same time, it is not enforceable. The concerned authority should look into the matter, investigate and come out with a clear answer. This is a crime committed against the students. Schools should never be turned into a house of business,” he added.

Raphei Katamnao Long has also promised that they will investigate further and will extend full cooperation to the concerned authority in unearthing the truth.
