A public meeting organised by Meetei Erol Eyek Loinashilol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) resolved to press for the publication of Meeteilon newspapers in Meetei Mayek (Script) instead of Bengali Script from February 5, 2022.
The public meeting titled “Manipuri Lolgi Pao-chesing eyekta onthoknaba” (Conversion of Meeteilon newspapers to our own script) was held on Thursday at GM Hall.
The meeting also resolved that MEELAL with the help of people would help in the process of publication of the newspapers in Meetei Mayek. Educating those who do not know the script and the newspapers would also help in imparting the knowledge of the script in their publications, the meeting resolved.
It was also resolved not to include “Lonyan” (influence of other languages) in the newspapers. The meeting resolved to appraise the government to publish a daily in Meetei Mayek by the Department of Publicity and Public Relations (DIPR) and also convert all the documents in Bengali Script to Meetei Mayek within a stipulated time.
Retired professor Wangkhem Nabakumar was the moderator of the public meeting while MEELAL president Yanglem Biren was the president of the public meeting. Women Association For Socioeconomic Development (WASDEV) president RK Tharaksana, International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) president Joychandra Konthoujam, United Committee Manipur (UCM) president Sunil Karam, amongst other CSOs leaders put forward their opinions in the meeting.
