Probe initiated against KSO for Unlawful Act

Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO), which has spearheaded recent protests against the Manipur Government’s eviction drives in Reserved Forest and protected areas, is facing a probe for allegedly being “involved in an unlawful act”.

Registrar of Societies, Manipur Arambam Valentina issued an order on March 15 appointing T Somokanta Singh, Deputy Registrar of Societies, Imphal East, as inquiry officer to conduct an inquiry under Section 22 of Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989 and its Rules, to investigate the affairs of the Organisation.

As per the order, “Kuki Students’ Organisation” was registered under Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989 bearing Registration No. 2991/SR/1979, on December 29, 1979, with its office address at Gihon Villa New Lambulane, Imphal.

The order maintained that as per records available at the office of the Registrar of Societies, Manipur, “Kuki Students’ Organisation” has not submitted Annual reports, balance sheets, auditor’s reports, etc. for the last 43 years. The society was found involved in unlawful acts.

The order mentioned that Section 14 of Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989 and Rule No. 17 of Manipur Societies Registration Rules, 2004 provide for maintenance of a register of members in form M.

It also mentioned that Section 15 of the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989 and its Rules provide for maintenance of Books of accounts and for audit.

The order stated Section 16 of the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989 provides for Annual General Body meetings to be conducted every year.

It further said Section 17 of Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989 provides for Annual and other returns to be submitted to the Registrar.

The inquiry was initiated to investigate the affairs of the Organization under Section 22 of the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989.

The Inquiry officer was asked to submit his report within 10(ten) days from the date of issue of this order.
