In a historic official visit, Ukhrul on Monday welcomed National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Rekha Sharma, who inspected One Stop Centre (OSC) Ukhrul and Ukhrul District Hospital. She was accompanied by Tangkhul community leader and figure Soso Shaiza, who is also an Ex-Member of NCW, Senior Coordinator of National Commission for Women Moirangthem Lilabati and Sanatombi (MFS).
Rekha Sharma said, “I have come here to Ukhrul, though it is very far. We are reaching every nook and corner of the country to see where we can make changes.”
Rekha Sharma, while visiting One Stop Centre (OSC) Ukhrul, stated that “it is learnt that the OSC Ukhrul has not been getting funds for the last 20 months. We will be writing to the Ministry of Women and Child Development about it. Awareness is very less among the community. Most of the people don’t know where the OSC exists or why it exists.”
“The approach road to Ukhrul District is very bad. I will meet CM N. Biren Singh tomorrow and will appraise him about the road condition” added Rekha Sharma. In spite of the pouring rain, Chairperson NCW and her team also visited the Ukhrul District Hospital and had a short interaction with the Medical Superintendent, staff and nurses of the hospital.
The District Administration of Ukhrul has also organised an interaction programme. The NCW Chairperson and her team will interact with officials of the District Administration of Ukhrul, members of Tangkhul Civil Societies, NGOs and women leaders of Ukhrul District at DRDA Hall, Mini Secretariat Complex, Ukhrul.
