Nagaland Police Sports Meet Begins at Chumoukedima Police Complex

The 40th edition of the Nagaland police duty-cum-sports meet 2024 was kicked off on Thursday at the Police Complex, Chumoukedima, with Nagaland Governor La Ganesan gracing the event as the special guest.

La Ganesan, in his speech, praised the officers for their commitment to excellence in both their professional responsibilities and athletic pursuits while adding that the event is seen as an opportunity to highlight values crucial to law enforcement, including integrity, teamwork, and resilience.

He said police sports meet not only tests physical abilities but also aims to strengthen camaraderie, unity, and shared the joy of police personnel beyond the daily demands of duty.

He acknowledged the essential balance between duty and recreation, emphasizing how these sporting events contribute to the holistic development of the officers at the same time he also paid tribute to the families and loved ones of the police personnel, whose support was vital to the officers’ strength and dedication.

“The sacrifices made by families were recognized as the foundation of a strong and humane police force and said the event is expected to foster lasting bonds among police units, creating memories and experiences that transcend the competitive arena”, he said and encouraged viewing the meet as an opportunity for personal growth and professional enrichment.

As the competition unfolds, hoping that participants will return with a renewed sense of purpose and stronger bonds within the police community.

This Meet is not just an event but a celebration of dedication, skill, and the unyielding spirit of our police force, he said while extending his heartfelt commendations to the 34 police units participating.

“Your commitment to excel in both duty and sports serves as an inspiration to us all. In every event that will be competed during this meet—be it in the fields of athletics or duty competitions—the values of integrity, teamwork and resilience will have to come to the fore”, he said.

Maintaining that the event would vividly showcase the physical prowess, temperaments as well as the sporting spirit of the state’s police personnel, qualities essential in fulfilling their duties to maintain peace and justice, he said it would also provide an opportunity to foster camaraderie, unity, and shared joy beyond the confines of their daily responsibilities for which he urged upon all the participants to make full use of the opportunity to enhance these core values that are very essential in their profession.

Director General of Police (DGP), Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, in his address, remarked that the annual event is not just about competition but it is a celebration of the courage, strength, and dedication that each member of the Nagaland Police brings to their duty.

He said that through these games, it strengthens the camaraderie and commitment to serving the people of Nagaland with honour, the duty cum sports meet is a much-anticipated event in the Nagaland Police calendar, which included varieties of athletic events, such as track and field, volleyball, and team-building activities.

Officers from various districts are participating providing a chance to showcase their skills and engage in friendly competition and to get the opportunity to perform at the international and national level, Rupin added.

Sharma also commended the athletes for their dedication and encouraged them to bring the same energy and spirit to their duties by citing that “Our profession demands that we be at our best, physically and mentally every day. This event is an opportunity for us to recharge, connect, and continue building a force that the people of Nagaland can rely on.

He also added this year’s meet promises to be an exciting blend of sportsmanship and professional duty, as police personnel from across Nagaland showcase their skills and compete in various events.
