Nagaland has surplus police personnel than required strength: MHA

Nagaland is the only State in India where sanctioned strength is 26738 personnel but has 28013, which is 1375 police personnel more than the sanctioned strength.

Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has disclosed that among the states in the country, Nagaland has more police personnel than its required strength.

According the MHA, the sanctioned strength of the personnel was 2738 but the State has 2813 personnel which is 1375 police personnel more than the sanctioned strength when its neighbouring State, Assam, required 15351 police personnel to maintain law and order in the State.

The MHA says that the required strength of police personnel depends upon the States’ Government and added that there are still more vacancies for police personnel.

Arunachal Pradesh has 2737, Manipur-5634, Meghalaya-1739, Mizoram-3205, Sikkim-810 and Tripura-6925 vacancies but Nagaland is the only State in India where sanctioned strength is 26738 personnel but has 28013, which is 1375 police personnel more than the sanctioned strength.

In India, the total sanctioned strength of State police forces ( Civil District Armed Reserve (DAR) +Spl. Armed +IRB) was 26,23,225, while the actual strength was 20,91,488 denoting a shortfall of 5,31,737.
