The minister of state for external affairs and education, MP Rajkumar Ranjan floated the idea of introducing the unsung heroes of Manipur in syllabus and assured that he will try to introduce them in the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The MP from Manipur was speaking during the T-Shirt releasing function of the upcoming 130th Years of Patriots Day, organised by the Apunha Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur, on Tuesday at New Delhi.
AIMS, in a release, said that since India has attained independence, the Northeast region of the country has been absent in the syllabus of schools, colleges and universities textbooks. MP Ranjan Singh, also felt the same negligence. So, he expressed that the unsung heroes of Manipur, which is not yet recorded in the syllabus, will try to be introduced in the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The T-shirts depicting rare images of historical figures in the 19th century were collected with copyrights from the British Library, London and other sources. Courtesy goes to those libraries in London for permitting to reproduce the images, the release added.
MP Ranjan further expressed that depicting the heroes of Manipur in the T-shirt will remind us how our forefathers fought the war to save Manipur from the British colony with courage and bravery, despite knowing that the British Empire was more powerful.
13th August is commemorated yearly as “Patriots’ Day” in Manipur. AIMS, Manipur said it will also pay tribute to martyrs on the 130th Patriots’ Day in memory of state heroes who lost their lives fighting during the Anglo-Manipuri war of 1891.
