While the state government commemorated the day at Gandhi Memorial Hall, MPCC observed the 73rd death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Congress Bhawan.

Like in other parts of the country, Manipur observed the death anniversary of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, as Martyrs’ Day on Saturday. The main function was organised by the state government at Gandhi Memorial Hall, Imphal.
Manipur governor Najma Heptulla and chief minister N Biren Singh led the council of ministers and MLAs, amongst others in paying floral tribute to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the hall.
“Let us rededicate ourselves to peace and non-violence, the core values of Mahatma Gandhi,” said the governor in a tweet.
“On this Martyrs’ Day, salutes and tributes to all our patriots & soldiers who laid down their lives for our freedom,” CM Biren said in a tweet.
The 73rd death anniversary of the father of the nation was also observed by Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhawan, BT Road, Imphal. MLAs, former MLAs, former MPs, MPCC office bearers, amongst others attended the solemn function.
MPCC president Govindas Konthoujam, CLP leader O Ibobi Singh and CWC member Gaikhangam led in paying floral tributes to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi situated inside the party office compound.
Ibobi calls upon the Congress workers to recall the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and pay respect to the man who showed that non-violence triumphs over violence.
