A 40-year-old man, who posted a viral video of his vaccination, was arrested for allegedly spreading false information and misleading the general public, police said on Saturday.
The arrested has been identified as Haobam Tikendrajit @ Ibomcha, S/O (L) H Chaoba Singh of Uchiwa Leirak Achouba under Mayang Imphal Police Station. He was arrested by a team of Mayang Imphal Police Station on Saturday after a case was registered based on a report submitted by Dr N Shamyai, State Mission Director NHM, Manipur, said Imphal West Superintendent of Police K. Meghachandra Singh.
One mobile handset, MI Note 8 along with a Jio sim card was seized from him, added the SP.
According to police on 28/05/2021 Tikendrajit was vaccinated with Covishield at a Vaccination Centre and he took a video clip from his mobile secretly with intention to spread false information and mislead the general public in order to obstruct the public servants from performing their lawful duties.
He posted the video clip in the social media with a message that the vaccine was not injected and as such it was widely circulated in social media, including WhatsApp and Facebook by thousands of people. It made the general public to believe that the medical staffs in the vaccination centre were not injecting the vaccine, said the police.
“Because of his act the medical staffs receive false charges of manipulation and wrongful deeds and they also receive intimidation from many persons,” they added.
The police further said the efforts of the Government in the curving of the Covid -19 pandemic is also severely affected as the vaccination at many centres reduced considerately today as many people lost faith in the Vaccination. “His act severely affected the ongoing Vaccination programme, demoralised the frontline workers and make the frontline workers vulnerable to obstruction, threat intimidation and risk to their lives,” they added.
The police made a humble appeal to the general public not to spread false information on the various measures taken up by the Government to contain the COVID 19 pandemic, not to believe in false and misleading information without proper verification and to follow the COVID appropriate behaviours, and SOPs and to follow the Curfew order of the Government.
